Mr Lynch's Irish History Trip

Mr Lynch did a bit of time travel today at the Irish National Heritage Park. Starting 9000 years ago at the new stoneage, see if you can work out the last real invaders of Ireland. (Clue: look at the boat).

Irish dwelling c7000BC

 New stoneage dwelling.
Dolmen, or doorway to the after life, bural stone c 5000BC

Burial  with marker stone.

Writing stone, first record of celtic language in Ireland using horizontal lines to create letters.
Celtic Ring Fort
Celtic cooking pit. Stones were heated and then put in a pit of water (just behind Mr Lynch) which would boil the water and the food would be placed in it to cook. The stones would crack under the heat and be heaped around the pit. Like a celtic hangi!!

Early Christian settlement c500AD

Early Christian Settlement.

Irish settlement c600ad. Built on islands in marshlands to avoid being robbed  by invaders.

Invaders' boat. They built settlements on Irelands coasts and raided irish villages. Any guesses who they were?

Norman fort c1200AD. A monastic round tower is in the background used by monks to look out for raiders and store valuables in.

Mr Lynch then caught the time machine back to today. Doctor Who was not met on this trip.
